Tissot Watches

Founded by Charles-Emile Tissot and his father in 1853, the Tissot brand of Swiss luxury watches were renowned for their precision from their very inception. An early pioneer of watchmaking education, Charles-Emile became synonymous with quality to the point where the Swiss government appointed him to the role of official National Inspector.

This catapulted Tissot watches to international superstardom overnight. Its reliable pocket watches became highly valued, receiving personal requests from the Russian Tsars. Famous entertainers also flocked to the brand, with Sarah Bernhardt wearing one of Tissot’s first wristwatches on the French stage.

Tissot’s innovation continued into the 20th century, creating the first non-magnetic Tissot watch that can be used safely in conjunction with the now burgeoning use of electricity. Soon, as times continued to change, so did Tissot, adapting to the evolving tastes of global fashion to fully engage with the aesthetics of the younger generations in the 1960s and beyond, all the while concealing technological breakthroughs like self-lubricating watches, creating legendary collections like the Tissot Powermatic 80, the Tissot Visodate, the Tissot Seastar, the Tissot Gentleman, the Tissot women’s watch, and many more.

Meanwhile, where the electronic watch revolution caused countless mechanical watchmakers to shutter their doors, Tissot flourished. A savvy partnership in the 1980s with Swatch paved the way forward, paving the way for the development of the world’s first tactile watch. Today, Tissot watches for men and women continue this tradition of innovative design and classic Swiss reliability and style.
